As many of you know, our lease here at the Water Tower Shoppes has been up for several months. The bank has recently sold the plaza to Publix and in the coming months our current location will be torn down to make way for a new grocery store. Although we have spent the summer pursuing other options - we have been unable to secure a new location. At this time we have chosen to close Platinum Dance Academy - effective Saturday, August 6th.

A parent once told me that she was pulling her daughter out of dance because she didn’t think she had a future in it and saw it as a waste of time. Yes, the world of professional dance is very hard and is extremely competitive - but there is so much more to dance than a professional career. Dance promotes discipline, coordination, memory, flexibility, strength, grace and stamina. Performing builds both positive self-esteem and confidence. These skills will benefit students as they move on in life and pursue careers in any field. Watching our students grow as people, not just as dancers, has been such a gift.

When we opened Platinum 3 years ago, our goal was to create “a positive and encouraging environment where students of all ages can develop a strong sense of self-worth, confidence, self-esteem and respect through the art of dance”. We envisioned not only a dance studio – but a place you could come to work toward your potential, build your character, and feel a sense of belonging. Each of you (teachers, staff, dancers, parents, friends) have made this goal a reality with your love, support, and effort.

Although I am very proud of the incredible technical progress our dancers have made in such a short period of time – I am most proud of the “community” that our studio has created. Like in any “family” there have been good times and not-so-good times, but overall the love and support for each other has been overwhelming.

The decision to close Platinum Dance Academy has not been easy. The memories that have been created here will never be forgotten. Classes, studio rehearsals, competitions, recitals, laughing, crying, private conversations, and even griping. I can only hope that I have left the same mark on our students that they have left on me.

Thank you again for the INCREDIBLE privilege of teaching your children.

Sincerely,

Miss Amy
